Inside the World of Modeling

model 2In anticipation of the 38th annual fashion show, and as an experienced model since the age of 16, I wanted to write this blog to introduce you to the inside world of modeling. Modeling in the fashion industry can be stressful, demanding and time consuming. Additionally, models have the expectation of behaving in a certain manner while promoting a brand. There are freelance (independent) models and industry models who are endorsed by a brand. The difference between industry models and myself is that I am freelance. Freelance models pay for photo shoots up front, and generate income by selling the images, while industry models are compensated upfront for their photoshoots, time, and incidentals, but they do not own the images.

model 1This year’s fashion show is “Limitless”, meaning nothing is restricted. One of the greatest things about this show is the coordinators are using models of all shapes, sizes, ethnicities and race.  This is extremely important because it broadens the idea for outfits and designs as well as includes everyone who wants a chance in the show. I modeled in last year’s show, and it was an amazing experience!

 

In conclusion, this year’s show is all about being yourself and letting your creativity flow. The 38th Annual GCC Fashion Show will be on May 4th, 2018 in the Richard C. Call Arena at 7 pm. This is going to be a big year for GCC’s Fashion Program and we can’t wait to show you what we have in store! Look for me on the runway!

Style Your Spring Stripes

Everyone has some stripes clothes in his or her closet, because stripes are just chic and very easy. It doesn’t matter where you are going to, on a beach or in a city. Stripes clothes always go well with your style. Spring and summer are coming, and the weather is getting warmer. Try some ways to show the freshness with the stripes that you totally forget in your closet.

  • Your stripes t-shirt with a sleeveless jacket
  • Your stripes t-shirt with a pair of high-waist jeans
  • Your stripes t-shirt with a pair of overalls
  • Your stripes dress
  • Your stripes skirt with a long-sleeve shirt

In the next two days, the weather will be so much warmer. Don’t be afraid to put on something fresh and go outside enjoying the sunshine! If we had no winter, the spring wouldn’t be so pleasant. Spring is the nature’s way of saying, “Let’s party!”

Emmy Winning Stylist Coming to GCC

Ever wonder what color red looks best on you? David Zyla can help you know. Don’t miss a chance to hear the Emmy-winning stylist and author speak at Genesee Community College on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in Room T102 of the Conable Technology Building on the GCC Batavia campus. His talk is part of The Fall Fashion Speakers Series at GCC. Zyla will be available for press interviews and photographs 30 minutes prior to his presentation in the Rosalie “Roz” Steiner Art Gallery in the Genesee Center for the Arts.

Zyla believes “every person has the right to feel empowered and look fantastic.” He helps people discover their individual palette of flattering colors found by looking at tones in the eyes, hair and skin. “By honoring and wearing these colors…we not only illuminate ourselves, but we build the confidence needed to attract love, enhance our power, restore our energy, make a lasting impression and show the world who we really are,” he writes on his website, www.davidzyla.com.

Zyla started out in fashion design, launching his own Seventh Avenue label at the age of 22. In 2001, ABC hired him to reinvigorate the visual quality of daytime television. He was head costume designer for General Hospital, Port Charles and All My Children for which he received an Emmy Award in 2010 for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design. He has also designed for commercials and film as well as Broadway shows and regional theatre productions. He has worked with well-known personalities, including Susan Lucci, Carol Burnett, Tom Hanks and Hillary Clinton.

Zyla is the author of “The Color of Style” and “Color Your Style.” His new book “How to Win at Shopping” is due out in January.
