Makeup’s Effect on Women’s Confidence

Makeup’s Effect on Women’s Confidence

By: Kaitlyn Tipton – Fashion Business Student and Makeup Lover

Makeup is an ever growing trend and a huge part of the fashion industry, and while it is continuously growing every day it keeps hand in hand with the world of fashion. Fashion trends are communicated through makeup. For example, an earthy trend would filter into makeup trends as natural and matte rather than glossy.

The most popular brick and mortar store to purchase makeup today is Sephora. Sephora is a makeup empire that originated in a small shop in Paris, France. By selling a wide selection of quality makeup, Sephora has become the store women shop at for their beauty items. But an increasing number of women are purchasing makeup online.

makeup 1Makeup is becoming more popularized though the internet. Female consumers are choosing to watch YouTube makeup gurus to help them along in their makeup journey, and with celebrities constantly always trying to look their best. The way these icons interact with the viewer makes them feel as if they are talking/interacting directly with them and then at the end of each video they sell their makeup products to their viewers. Some of these products and services these makeup gurus pedal could often include lipsticks, nail polish, eyeliner, and liquid lipstick. While makeup in itself is growing, people’s self-esteems are continuing to fall, this is due to the fact that people feel the need to be perfect on a day to day basis. The huge makeup tend in 2018 was bigger is better, this means that girls felt the need to apply more and more makeup to their faces to feel secure in their bodies.

Women should feel comfortable in their own bodies no matter how much makeup is applied to their skin. The constant battle of “should I look good enough”, should not be a constant struggle anymore. This struggle should be considered obscene in today’s day and age. It is 2018 and women have earned their place to stand tall and confident, regardless of how much makeup they wear.

makeup 2In conclusion people should feel confident no matter how much makeup they put on their skin, but with the makeup industry continuously growing this trend is not going anywhere soon. Celebrities and other lovable icons will continually endorse makeup as long as the fashion industry keeps making it, because while makeup does cause some women stress, it also play a huge role in our society.

Sneakers

By Tykayila Hawkins

Sneakers. Sneakers. Sneakers. Either you love them or you don’t. For those who love sneakers they know the hype surrounding them and they know what shoes are going to sell out compared to others. Everybody loves Adidas and Nike. For Adidas the most popular is Yeezy and for Nike it’s “Off-White”.

sneakers off white redYeezy is designed by Kanye West and he hypes them up by wearing them before the release date. Sometimes it’s hyped up too much to the point that it backfires and the shoes will sit on the shelf due to over production. The most recent pair of Yeezy’s are the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 which are the “Zebra” and “Sesame” print. “Zebra” has features that make it recognizable, a chunky bottom, logo, and the overall design. The Zebra print have clean ice (clear) bottoms. The red logo SPLY-350 is the known trademark and then of course you have the Zebra Print. The best thing about these shoes (being an owner of a few pairs) is the fact they are really comfortable. They feel like you’re walking on air all the time. They won’t disappoint.

sneakers off white blueAnother shoe that is really popular at the time is Nike Off-White 1’s. These shoes aren’t your typical go to pair. You could wear these to the family function when you want to show off, or if you want your outfit to pop. I love the detail of the shoe. It has the zip tie on it so you know it’s a part of the “Off-White” family. They also come with 2 different color shoe laces so you’re able to change the colors.

Overall, sneakers are amazing. You’re able to wear them to any function and you’re able to piece different outfits together to create a one of a kind look. From Yeezy to “Off-White” you can make any outfit, a runway outfit.

Spring 2019 Trends

Spring 2019 Trends

By Camilo Pernett

The upcoming spring trends include fashions that GCC students cannot wait to see. The upcoming 38th annual fashion show, Limitless, will showcase some of these trends and colors. I’m writing this blog to introduce you to these trends, so you can look forward to seeing them onstage.

The first trend for the upcoming spring season is “En Beige”, as coined in VOGUE magazine. It is recognized by its darker beige shades and head-to-toe trench coats. You can expect to see it on the runway, as at least one scene coordinator has confirmed “En Beige” as a part of the collection.

Another trend you will notice is VOGUE’s “California Dreamer”. When you think about spring you may think about a warm breeze of tropical adventure and colorful vibes, which is exactly the feeling of “California Dreamer”. The Italian brand Etro caught shark fever in Milan, with surfing-inspired collections.

A trend making big impact in the upcoming SS19 is the “Get into Print” (VOGUE) which focuses on prints is popular this season. According to the magazine Vogue, “Fashion’s preoccupation with florals is inexhaustible but for 2019 it’s nearing saturation point: now, prints should be worn all-over, clashed merrily and madly with little concern for what goes with what.” (https://www.vogue.co.uk/gallery/spring-summer-2019-trends)

Follow this trend if you want to make your wardrobe more colorful and fun.  Suits, jackets and blazers in colorful and bright oranges, yellows, reds, greens, and blues make your outfit less formal and more fun. This trend allows you to express yourself confidently.

These are the tends I hope you take note of and be aware of to be ready for the spring 2019 season. Whether you wear the new trends or appreciate them on the runway models, I hope this blog inspires you. We hope to see you wearing one of these trends at the fashion show, Limitless on Saturday, May 4, 2019.
