In an effort to make the Genesee Community College website more efficient and to your liking, there is a survey going around right now that each student should take right away.

Photobook — 03.03.12

Standard

So i was sitting in the cafe today and the lady that runs shag came up to our table and gave us a form on the GCC photobook that they are trying to put together. They say if you take a picture of yourself and whatever you are doing, they will put it in.  In the picture below, are the details that you need to read if you are really interested.

sounds pretty cool to me and its the first ever publication…  think if everyone in the school actually did this, that would be pretty impressive for the first ever publication.

Leap Year

Standard

Today is February 29th. Happy Leap Year everyone! I don’t know how many of you have seen the movie Leap Year starring Amy Adams…

But, if you haven’t I will explain why it is important. In the movie, Anna- the main character- goes to Ireland to propose to her boyfriend on this date. You see in Ireland there is a tradition where, on a leap year, a woman can propose to a man.

I love this tradition, because over here in America if that happened very often, it would be criticized. Here it is thought that the man always has to do the asking. Granted, it is the way we girls would prefer it, but sometimes you just have to take matters intto your own hands. I’m not saying it should always happen, but I think we’d all be a little better off if we accepted it when it did happen, without making fun of the man or something.

Basketball Game vs Alfred State 2.21

Standard

I just wanted to let everyone know to go check out the Alfred State Basketball Game today.  Its Senior/Sophomore night (whatever you want to call it)and if you are there early you could possibly receive a free foam finger.  These are going to be two great games.  The girls play at 6:00 and the boys follow.  I actually went to high school with a kid that plays on the boys team and he just to me that they recently beat MCC at the buzzer.  GCC lost to MCC at home, so this should be a good game, although GCC did beat Alfred State 78-83 when they went to Alfred.  The girls just came off of a big win vs JCC and another friend of mine plays for Alfred State girls team and they lost to JCC.

Two good games in store for tonight.  Check them out !

Emily Elizabeth Scholl

Hey everyone! Genevieve here, about to brag about my beautiful little niece Emily! She has gorgeous blue eyes and is starting to get reddish hair like her daddy- my brother.

The onesie that I got her back when she was still in the tummy

Right now she is only about six pounds, but she is growing at an alarming rate. She was born only a little over four pounds, so she has made great progress. She is an amazing child that is incredibly intelligent. She tries to hold up her own head, grabs for things, and in a way we think she knows when we say something that she doesn’t want to hear.

Daddy & Daughter

This weekend I saw her for the first time since she got over all of her complications from being so small. I held her for nearly three hours and, even though my muscles are screaming at me even as I type this, it was the best three hours of my life. Tomorrow I have to go back to Batavia and I am dreading it, because I am going to miss the little peanut sooo much. Chances are I won’t be back home until spring break in March and by then she will be a whole different person! Well, at least I get updates on Facebook! And this effectively ends my bragging about little Emily! 🙂

Fashion Show Tryouts

Standard

Spring is coming up fast, and you know that means the Fashion Show is coming up.  If you wanna be apart of the 31st Annual Fashion Show, there are model tryouts in the Batavia Campus Forum on Wednesday, February 15 at 12pm-2pm and on Thursday, February 16th at 2pm-4pm.

Last year’s Fashion Show, A La Mode was pretty good.  It was my first ever fashion show that I have been to, so I wasn’t that thrilled about it, but I found it pretty interesting.  A few of my friends were apart of it so they were the reasons that I got involved.  Everything from backstage, to practices, to the actual show is just a great experience and you meet a lot of people from it. Click the link below to view some pictures from last year.

Here is a chance to try something now.

February Special. (Batavia Downs – pt. II.)

Standard

Since my last blog post on the downs, a lot of interesting things have happened.  Every time I walk in to the downs, someone that works there greets me by my name because they know me from that last post.  They gave me a few hats, shirts and a cooler.  So cool.  But thats not what I wanted to  talk about.

Throughout the month of February, Batavia Downs has a special where you get a 5-dollar free play if you show up from 8am – 9am.  Many commuters who have 9 o’clock class could take advantage of this and maybe win a few bucks.  Also, if you go on Friday in the morning, you will receive the 5 dollar free play and the 10 dollar free play from Facebook Friday. (Like I described in the past post.)

Me and my roommate headed out there this morning before his 10 o’clock class.  I walked away with only 7 dollars and he walked away with $19, although he was one “7” away from winning the jackpot.  A few days ago, me and a friend turned 10 dollars in to $102 in one spin.

Try out your luck, maybe you will walk away with something !

Online Classes

Standard

Is it me or am I the only one who likes online classes?

It seems like everyone that asks me about my schedule is shocked to see that I take so many classes online.  I am a full-time student taking five classes online and I absolutely love it.  Who honestly likes to sit in class?  When you take classes online, you have the freedom to do your work whenever it is best for you.  (you obviously have a due date to turn that assignment in)

They are not as hard as people make them sound.  Some advice that I can give you on taking online classes are:

  • If you are debating on taking a class and it is your first ever online, take ENG, HIS, or like an Art History course.  I have taken over ten courses online in multiple subjects and I find that those are the easier subjects.  Upper-level MAT, ACC, and s0me BUS courses are some of the more challenging subjects, but they are not impossible.
  • Login onto your class at least once a day.  This way, you will NEVER miss anything.
  • Learn to use your EMAIL.  E-Mail is your main way of communication with your professors, whether its your genESIS email or your actual my.genesee.edu email address.
  • Don’t be afraid to talk to your professor.  If you don’t understand something, e-mail them and 90% of the time they will help you out.  There has been times where I forgot to turn in assignments on time and I just emailed the professor and told them straight up why it was late.  Nobody’s perfect.  Sometimes they will hook you up and give you credit for it.

If you learn to incorporate a few online classes with a few in-class classes, you will realize that your schedule will be a whole lot easier.
