Art gallery

Standard

I visited the art gallery today and I have to say I am impressed. There was everything from sculptures to paintings to photography (my personal fave). I was particularly impressed by Naoya Yoshioka, Christina Barnes, Kayla Twardowski, Hikaru Kishimoto, Rachel Doktor, and Holly Hosmer. You all did a wonderful job! While most of you were acrylic on canvas, Hikaru was graphite and Rachel was photography. Since I have such a love for the craft, I am going to concentrate on Rachel’s photography.

Rachel, I am very impressed and even returned to your photograph twice to re-study it. The way you conveyed such sadness in the image makes me want to know the whole story behind the two people. Your photograph was like an unfinished novel. The mystery of the outcome is torturing me, yet still makes me want more. Keep up the great work!

warm weather coming !

Standard

i looked up the weather of this week on monday and these are what i got.  Throughout the days, I have noticed how more and more people are outside.  During the winter, everyone is always stuck inside, bored.  It’s always towards the spring part of second semester where you see everyone down here at college village come together.  Everyone is either outside playing basketball or volleyball, or just socializing.   The school also has some interesting specials come spring semester so be prepared in the future !

Warm weather means better things!

Photobook — 03.03.12

Standard

So i was sitting in the cafe today and the lady that runs shag came up to our table and gave us a form on the GCC photobook that they are trying to put together. They say if you take a picture of yourself and whatever you are doing, they will put it in.  In the picture below, are the details that you need to read if you are really interested.

sounds pretty cool to me and its the first ever publication…  think if everyone in the school actually did this, that would be pretty impressive for the first ever publication.

DO IT!

Basketball Game vs Alfred State 2.21

Standard

I just wanted to let everyone know to go check out the Alfred State Basketball Game today.  Its Senior/Sophomore night (whatever you want to call it)and if you are there early you could possibly receive a free foam finger.  These are going to be two great games.  The girls play at 6:00 and the boys follow.  I actually went to high school with a kid that plays on the boys team and he just to me that they recently beat MCC at the buzzer.  GCC lost to MCC at home, so this should be a good game, although GCC did beat Alfred State 78-83 when they went to Alfred.  The girls just came off of a big win vs JCC and another friend of mine plays for Alfred State girls team and they lost to JCC.

Two good games in store for tonight.  Check them out !

GO COUGARS !

Fashion Show Tryouts

Standard

Spring is coming up fast, and you know that means the Fashion Show is coming up.  If you wanna be apart of the 31st Annual Fashion Show, there are model tryouts in the Batavia Campus Forum on Wednesday, February 15 at 12pm-2pm and on Thursday, February 16th at 2pm-4pm.

Last year’s Fashion Show, A La Mode was pretty good.  It was my first ever fashion show that I have been to, so I wasn’t that thrilled about it, but I found it pretty interesting.  A few of my friends were apart of it so they were the reasons that I got involved.  Everything from backstage, to practices, to the actual show is just a great experience and you meet a lot of people from it. Click the link below to view some pictures from last year.

Here is a chance to try something now.

Basketball Game

Standard

GCC vs ECC, Jan. 26, 2012

I had a chance to check out the men’s basketball game earlier tonight against Erie Community College and let me tell you, it was a game you didn’t want to miss.  The game was exciting from start to finish.  If you were to go up to someone and ask them about the game, they probably would tell you about the dunks that Michael Glenn and Deylon Bovell had, or about how loud it was due to the crowd being so in to the game.  In my opinion, the most exciting thing that I saw was the sick crossover that Kenton Chan-Man had.  I mean, I have played basketball my whole life and it is just straight up EMBARRASING for the defender if you make them fall.  The crowd made sure he was embarrassed by getting loud after it happened.  In the end GCC got a comfortable lead late by going up ten with about two mintues to go and came out with a close victory.  Great win for the Cougars Basketball team.

New Exhibit

Standard

Well, the first blog post is always the hardest so bare with me.

If you have a chance, stop over by the art gallery and check out the new, cool exhibit that is on display.  I mean it was cold out one day so I decided to walk in through the art gallery and the exhibit caught my eye from the second I walked in.

Kala Stein next to her work, "Convivium."

The exhibit on display is called the Convivium.  Constructed by Alfred University’s Kala Stein, it is a 32-foot long glass table that is set with hundreds of porcelain half-goblet forms and is arranged in a specific pattern.

What makes the Convivium so cool is that when you look at it from far away, all of the porcelain goblet forms look like they are the same, but when you look at it up-close, they are all slightly different.  Also, when you cast a shadow over the objects, it gives it a different look and makes it much more interesting.

The art was very interesting, but also below and inside of the gallery there is a video of how they actually put the piece together.  They said that it took them a few days to put the whole thing together.

If you have the time, I highly advise you check it out.  The piece will be up until February 27, 2012.

Corning Museum of Glass

Standard

By: Genevieve Scholl

This past weekend, I went to the Corning Museum of Glass. It was very excited to tour the museum and different exhibits and see some of the amazing things that can be made out of glass. There were things from bowls to chandaliers to baseball bats! And we even went to the studio to make our own flowers out of glass! It is hard to explain the beauty of the glass and the amazing feeling you get as you walk through the halls, so please take a close look at the photographs below and enjoy!
